Hey all, just a heads up that a new SIG, "SIG Virtual Environments", shall soon be announced and we'll be looking for you there once it's really truly official, which really truly should be sometime in the next two weeks! I wanted you all to be among the first to know. There is absolutely no reason to bail on GSTL, of course, but now we'll have a SIG purely for VE. "Neat," I say.

I'm hoping we'll be able to do a little pioneering in the way a SIG works, and our focus will extend beyond Second Life, though of course it will begin there! More later, and lots of it!

Oh, Co-organizers of the SIG proposal include some names you might recognize:

Bernajean Porter
Peggy Sheehy
Lisa Linn
Marianne Malmstrom
Bronwyn Stuckey
Lindy McKeown
Malinda McCormick
and Christie Thomas

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know of a job posting at Appalachian State in Boone, NC - the Instructional Technology program here has been actively using 3D virtual immersive worlds for more than nine years. Check out the posting at http://www.hrs.appstate.edu/employment/epa/epa.php#epa4748.

Hi love the idea of a VE subgroup. My masters classes in Instructional Technology were taught on an Active World platform, am a Buoy in Quest Atlantis, currently teaching middle school teachers and students how to design instructional spaces in Qwaq, and am beginning to dabble in the Open Cobalt project. Looking forward to meeting other VE folks at NECC!

Just interested in what's going on here...
Think that virtual environments will be key to future teaching and learning and don't want to be too far behind the curve!
